From straightforward bin fire, to tackling a ship fire. Firefighter training in a firefighter academy has to be as versatile as the hazardous situations that may present themselves. Yet fighting fires is a relatively small percentage of the deployment spectrum. With the use of new substances, for instance plastics in the guise of a wide range of building materials, these deployments are becoming increasingly more dangerous and more complex. Various recent accidents involving the use of respiratory protection during firefighting show the hazards involved in these deployments.
